Experimental and Breakdown Screen Printing: Creating Colourful, Textural Prints

Breakdown screen printing is an experimental, organic process for creating unique prints on fabric and paper. It produces vibrant colours, rich textures and beautifully distressed marks. Enjoy the surprise, as each print reveals its own unique character.

Using thickened dyes, you’ll create textures and imagery on a screen with everyday materials, such as string, and natural objects, including leaves. You’ll also explore a range of additional textural print techniques to enrich your designs.

At the end of the day, you’ll take your prints home to rinse and dry. They can then be used for sewing, embroidery, mixed media and art projects, or developed further through additional print or digital design.

Suitable for all levels of experience.

ABOUT THE  COURSE

Introduction to experimental and creative Gelliplate Printmaking

Gelliplate monoprinting is a fun, experimental and intriguing way to create unique, textural and colourful patterns and art. Use everyday items (e.g. string) and natural objects (e.g. leaves) to create textured prints. You will experiment with using stencils and layering your prints. You can choose to print on paper, fabric or both.

The course will be experimental and fun, with help and advice given to enable you to get the most out of the day. Paper prints can be used for art and creative projects. Fabrics can be fixed and are then ready for your own sewing, art or embroidery.

Basic materials, tools, ink and paper will be provided. Additional materials may be available to buy from the tutor or the art shop next door. We limit our course numbers to 6 – in order for you to get the most from our tutors and the facilities.

This course is suitable for all levels. Please wear old clothes and bring an apron.
